The Four Concepts of Goddess Fortuna and Good Luck
The Four Concepts of Goddess Fortuna and Good Luck with Plants By Laurali cover luck, fortune, fame, and change with Plants By Laurali! Lady Luck is my patron goddess, therefore, I’ve discovered some hidden gems when doing deity work with her. Today, we will deeply dive into the concepts that make Fortuna who she is!
Every year, I choose a focus word for the new year. This year my focus work is luck. I’ve been studying the concept of good luck and how to bring more of it into my life.
What is luck? Luck is where preparedness meets chance. It also happens when success or failure is brought on by chance, rather than through one’s actions.
Luck is one of those concepts that may seem elusive, but it’s with us every day, all around us. This proves especially true for those who worship the Roman Goddess Fortuna. For me, she is my best friend, my patron deity, and the love of my life!
So much so, that I created the Fortuna Luck Altar in her honor! I hadn’t used it for a long time, until I decided to invigorate it recently, along with my focus word for luck.
Worshipping Fortuna meant new areas of learning and study. Along with my botanical studies, I’ve been working on learning the four concepts that make up the Goddess Fortuna and her good luck energy. Without any further ado, let’s jump into it!
The Four Concepts of Goddess Fortuna and Good Luck
What are the four concepts of Lady Fortuna? The four concepts are luck, fortune, fame, and change! Change is the one constant in life. It’s the one thing you can always count on, while the others involve chance meetings and golden opportunities.
If working with Goddess Fortuna is something that has massive appeal to you, you’ll want to get these concepts down and memorize them by heart. You’ll also want to study them for months at a time!
For each concept, I recommend studying them for at least a month, if not more. For each concept to fully sink in, you’ll want to deep dive into each concept for a good length of time. You’ll want to eat, sleep, and breathe the concept of good luck!
Luck: Chance, opportunity, serendipity, and preparedness meet good luck! Good luck can sometimes be won without any action on your part.
Fortune: Favor, money, chance, luck, and windfalls! Fortune favors the bold couldn’t be truer here.
Fame: Honor, respect, recognition, praise, and adoration! This is about being known for something and making a name for yourself.
Change: Cycles, wheel of fortune, movement, seasons! The one constant in life is change. It’s the one thing you can always count on.
Additionally, if you’d like a favorable outcome to a situation, you might like to work with Bonus Eventus, he is the consort to Lady Luck! A consort is like a husband or wife in the realm of the gods. I’ll be writing about him in a future article!

Concept Number One: Luck
The concept of luck can go either way! You can have bad luck and misfortune or the tides can turn in your favor, like a milk moon witch. This means, a period of good luck where everything comes into divine timing and alignment.
To start studying the concept of good luck, write down at least three things each day that turned out lucky. It could be as simple as an argument being smoothed out or being bumped up to first class. For this, you’ll want to keep a notebook or journal to track the lucky opportunities, big and small, coming into your life.
Remember, luck can be engineered based on your preparedness. If you are poised and ready for something good to happen, it’s more likely to weave into your life in some unexpected way. For example, how are you going to win the lottery without a lottery ticket?
Write down some ways you can be prepared to meet good luck halfway. Write them down in your journal. I’ll leave you some examples below to help aid you in the process!
Dress for success. If you are trying to meet the love of your life, get dressed up, even if you are doing a mundane task like grocery shopping. Ideally, this could work for friendships and business connections, too. It’s about putting your best foot forward!
Buy a lotto ticket. I’ve already established this one, but thought I’d take the concept further. You can’t win a contest unless you enter it. Buying a lottery ticket, entering contests, and signing up for things opens up the possibility of you becoming a winner at the game of life!
Enchant Accessories. Enchant nature-inspired accessories to bring good luck, great fortune, and protection your way! I enchanted a dragonfly necklace my mom gave me with good luck energy. I also enchant bows and ribbons to place in my hair for luckiness!
Make connections. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people! If you have a business, this is even more important. What this does is open the floodgates for good things to happen. The more connections you make, the more likely you are to see opportunities rolling in. Often, one connection will lead to new connections. Such is the circle of life!
Concept Number Two: Fortune
The concept of fortune holds the key to money flow! Having great fortune is very similar to good luck, except it is more money-focused. This means your focus will shift to money-making opportunities, financial windfalls, and unexpected financial gain.
The one thing I know about fortune is that it favors the bold! You have to put yourself out there to get what you want. Sometimes, this means asking the universe for what you want.
To ask the universe for what you want, try creating a money bowl, blowing cinnamon through the door on the first of every month, and crafting money magick spells! This makes it clear what you want (money) and how much you want, and sometimes, by which means you’d like it to come.
For example, if you have a small business, maybe you’d like to craft a money magick spell tailored to increase sales and revenue in your business! This would be a specific form of money.
To begin the study of great fortune, you’ll want to write down how money comes to you! Money should come to you through different resources, as well as through the work you do. You might be surprised by how many ways money flows throughout your life.
Having great fortune goes hand-in-hand with the concept of good luck, bringing you more of the same! Fortune covers chance and luck through external or outside sources. Again, money can come to you by way of chance and hard work. It all depends on you!
Write down some ways you can be prepared to meet great fortune halfway. Write them down in your journal. I’ll leave you some examples below to help aid you in the process!
Money Magick Spells. This is a great way to declare what you want from the universe. In this case, money, sales, and financial windfalls. Try not to control the situation too much and leave yourself open to surprises.
Cinnamon Blowing - Blow cinnamon through your door on the first of every month or at the beginning of each year and season! Cinnamon represents power, speed, and prosperity.
Write yourself a check. Write a check to yourself with the amount of money you want and hang it where you can see it each day. Rip it up when it comes true! Or, burn the pieces, and bury them someplace memorable.
Start a small online business. If you want to make money, you’ve got to put yourself out there! If you have a dream of working from home or running a successful side hustle, this is a great way to open yourself up to it. Money comes to those who create an outlet for it to roll in!
Make Business Connections. If you own a small business, make a list of businesses with a similar vibe. Do research and get to know them. When you are ready, reach out to them! You might make a friend, which is great because you can help each other out through collaboration, sponsorship, and more!
Concept Number Three: Fame
The concept of fame is for those who are bold enough to put themselves out there! Fame can be a sticky subject. Fame comes when you can finally live as your true, authentic self.
Most people don’t have an interest in being famous. They equate it with celebrities, movie stars, and glitzy events one must attend. However, fame has nothing at all to do with the glitz and the glam unless you want it to be!
Fame is your birthright. This means you can be famous in a way that feels as comfortable to you as breathing. You can do this by simply being yourself.
What does fame mean? It means being well-known and popular for something that’s exclusively you. It means honor, respect, nobility, recognition, and adoration.
To begin the study of fame, you’ll want to write down what you're known for by your family and friends. Start there. What are you already famous for?
Maybe you are the genius of your family, excelling at academics and getting good grades. Maybe you are well-known and popular for your style. Or, maybe you are known for being an artist in your local community.
It’s okay to give yourself kudos for your talents and abilities, whatever they may be! It’s even better to gain publicity and recognition from the people in the world, in a way that feels natural to you.
Next, write down what you’d like to be known for. Is there a hidden talent you are too afraid to put out into the world? Do you have an online business you’d like to become popular? Write it down in your luck journal!
Write down some ways you can be prepared to meet fame halfway. Write them down in your journal. I’ll leave you some examples below to help aid you in the process!
Start a blog! This is an exceptional way to put your thoughts, dreams, and ideas into the world. It will likely resonate with someone somewhere.
Social Media. In the modern age, it’s easier to leave your footprint on the world! You can use one of your favorite social media outlets to become famous in your own right. If you are a photographer, maybe you could become Instagram famous. If video is your thing, maybe you can start a YouTube channel and find infamy there.
Charitable Causes. By becoming a famous philanthropist, you’ll bring attention to a cause you care about! If helping people or animals is your passion, channel your energy into it.
Be a style guide! Do you have a unique fashion style? This is a great way to be remembered. You’ll become the talk of the town and an inspiration for fashion trends.
Concept Number Four: Change
The concept of change is something we can always count on! There’s comfort and stability in change, as evolution often happens slowly, evolving and changing throughout time. Change is the one constant in life!
This means that if we don’t like our circumstances, we have the power to change them! It’s the reason I became a witch in the first place.
Change represents transitions, cycles, the wheel of fortune, and movement. Things are always in flux. Things are always evolving, adapting, and changing! It’s the cycle of life.
To begin the study of change, write down all of the ways your life has changed throughout the past year, whether good or bad. You’ll often find the things you thought were bad at the time, turned in your favor later, once you’ve moved past it. You probably learned life lessons, made improvements, and did shadow work on yourself.
You've probably heard the old saying that this too shall pass! This is the cycle of change at work. The dark, difficult times teach us lessons and help us go within, while the positive times make us feel like we are aligned with the universe.
What are some ways you can make some positive changes in your life? Write it down in your journal. Be sure to include different arenas in life such as relationships, career, mental health, wellness, and beauty goals!
Write down some ways you can be prepared to meet change halfway. Write them down in your journal. I’ll leave you some examples below to help aid you in the process!
Quit Your Job. I wouldn’t recommend this unless you are truly miserable and have a backup plan, but this is an excellent way to shake up the norm and create powerful change in your life!
Start a diet and exercise plan. Starting a diet and exercise plan is a great way to create powerful change in your life! It impacts your mental, spiritual, and physical health. It will push you out of your comfort zone, as most change does! Go with a plant-based meal plan or start a yoga or pilates program and begin to see positive changes happening in your life, so long as you stick with it.
Change your appearance. Change your hair color, get a haircut, or change your style with a brand-new wardrobe. This is a great way to gain attention if you’d like to be famous in your own right, as well as create a glow-up! It’s the little tweaks and changes we make that mean the most.
