Plants By Laurali Field Notes on Green Witchery

Field Notes on Green Witchery: Natural Magic covers kinfolk-style, slow-living, and bringing nature into your home with Plants By Laurali! Part of being a green witch is connecting with Mother Earth and spending time in the heart of nature.

In green witchcraft, we derive our energy from the earth element. The Earth Element is connected to the root chakra, which is then connected to the lower realm, where the nature spirits reside. This is also the place in which you’ll find your animal familiar.

The root chakra holds the key to our security, stability, and financial well-being. It is a warm, red center of fiery energy that burns like the hearth in the kitchen of a green kitchen witch. In the root chakra lies our passions and fondest heart’s desires.

It’s important as a nature witch to always be close to the spirits of the land and to bring nature into your home. As an earth-based witch, you’ll use natural magic for all of your endeavors!

What is natural magic? Natural magic is the type of magic that comes naturally from things like rocks, trees, rivers, and streams. It comes from the natural beauty of the landscapes.

This kind of magic is grounded, like warm cinnamon and nutmeg! It’s the kind of magic that feels like a spiritual mud bath for the soul.

On a spring day, it feels like a cool zephyr and blue skies, with birds chirping in the backdrop of nature. On a summer day, it feels warm, bright, and cloudless.

On an autumn day, it feels like a cozy, handmade sweater wrapped around you for protection and warmth. On a Winter’s day, it feels like the warmth of a campfire on a snowy night.

This is what natural magic feels like. It feels natural, grounded, warm, and earthy. It feels cozy and comfortable, like a blanket on cold grass while reading a book in the meadow.

Natural magic is derived from Mother Nature. Natural Magic contains the earth element with crystals, herbs, animals, and nature spirits as spell ingredients. You can find anything you need on a nature walk!

Field Notes on Green Witchery: Natural Magic

I take field notes on my life as a solitary green witch! This is composed of the things that I hunt, gather, and forage for. I am a vegetarian so my hunting methods might differ from another witch. For me, hunting is searching for food that I can collect, forage, and wildcraft for.

Acorns, mushrooms, naturally growing fruits, and some wildflowers can be foraged and used for medicine and as a natural food source that is completely organic and farm-to-table. Part of being a natural witch is knowing which foods can be sourced for plant-based meals.

For the carnivorous green witch, hunting might be a resourceful way to live off of the land and eat sustainable foods. The green witch will only take what they need from the land and waste nothing. They are more likely to show reverence, respect, and gratitude for the animals they kill and eat.

For me, as a plant-based witch, I transform things like elderberry into syrup and wildly growing orange groves become an element in a money spell! Mushrooms become keys for Goddess Hekate and acorns become a way of grounding my energy when I’m stuck indoors.

Part of green magic is gathering belongings from the land to incorporate into herbal spells and natural healing remedies! Things like pinecones, river stones, Spanish moss, and Native plant seeds can also be used as a spell ingredient. It’s important to understand the magical and medicinal qualities of each natural item.

When I head into the forest, I bring my backpack with a few simple supplies! I will often bring a spoon for digging up moss, containers for naturally shed items, and tiny gemstones to give as offerings to the trees and plant life.

My backpack has been enchanted! It’s just one of the many wonders of being a magical person. I blessed it so that it brings good luck and magical experiences whenever I use it! I made sure I included my boyfriend in this too, as he puts his wallet and things in there whenever we walk or go cycling together.

Every green witch needs an enchanted backpack to put their things in! We’re always going on field trips and mini-adventures to graveyards, parks, and beaches.

Green witchery isn’t all about the Great Outdoors! It’s about bringing the magic of nature indoors, as well. You can do that with houseplants, healing stones, tree branches, and feathers. There are many ways to bring nature into your home and create warmth and comfort.

Bring Nature Inside Your Home

First of all, why would you want to bring nature into your home? As an earth witch, you are going to want to be surrounded by living, breathing elements.

Things like potted plant spells can spruce a space up and bring it to life! I have a multitude of large, medium, and small houseplants in my home. I even have a Venus flytrap terrarium that I’ve spun into a money and love spell!

I still have a wooden log that I use as an air plant holder that my brother found for me more than a decade ago. I also have little pinecones, acorns, and feathers in and around my place.

Nature is something that the green witch loves to be surrounded by! It makes perfect sense, as I feel most at home in nature. Do you?

I prefer a warm, cozy, and comfortable vibe to my small home. My outdoor area has a porch with hanging plants and large pots overflowing with vines, purple plants, and succulents. Outside the porch area is a small, handmade garden filled with botanicals and bunny bones.

You can read the story about the bunny in my garden in my animal witchcraft article. Long story short, I laid the bunny to rest there after it died. Even though my animal familiar is with the hedgehog, I still feel a strong kinship with the spirit of the bunny in my garden.

There are fairy lights everywhere to light the pathway. They always remind me of when I lived in Kansas and fireflies would light up the trees like Christmas lights.

The point is there are little things you can do to bring the elements of the natural world into your home! Many of them you can do with little to no money.

You can walk around your neighborhood and gather plant cuttings and flowers to make flower arrangements and propagate houseplants. Those are both completely free! You can also head to your local park and collect smooth rocks, plant life, and seeds to grow from home.

Bringing nature into your home is cost-effective! You can gather most natural items for free and purchase the rest on a budget.

The Green Witch Style Guide

To be a green witch, you can dress however you want. However, most green witch people like to incorporate natural magic and elements of nature into their wardrobe. It’s what we do!

We tend to gravitate toward items that are comfortable and dresses that are flowing! It makes it easier to go wildcrafting in the woodland.

One thing I like to do is keep naturally shed items on me, whether it be wearing crystals in my bra or flowers in my hair. I keep acorns in my pocket and tiny moss terrariums in my purse and backpack. They usually consist of a spell or two!

When I’m hiking, I love a good pair of earth-friendly hiking boots that are cruelty-free! As I previously mentioned, it’s not unusual for me to have my enchanted backpack on me.

My green witch style consists of a lot of dresses, on a typical day, with tiny enchanted items built into accessories as part of my slow-living wardrobe. I’m a big fan of Wearable Planters! This way, I can take my plants with me wherever I go.

I also wear my lucky ribbons and bows in my hair most days of the week. They are all enchanted by Goddess Fortuna and bring good luck wherever I go!

In addition to that, I am really into heart-shaped glasses! Right now, my favorites are a red pair that has been enchanted so that I get compliments and attention, lol. It works!

All green witches are completely different and will have their own style, but the one common thread they have is Mother Nature. The heart of nature is woven into the fabrics they wear and the accessories they adorn!

Kinfolk Style, Slow-Living

The green witch often practices kinfolk-style, slow-living! This means they slow down and enjoy calm activities that are seasonal and often weather-related.

Simple things like a nature walk or camping under the stars make their world go round. One of my favorite pastimes is spending time in nature!

You can often find me forest bathing, earthing, and grounding my energy there. It’s how I stay connected to the energy of the earth and clear my mind.

I love snapping wildlife pictures and communicating with the nature spirits who reside there! When I’m at home, I do more of the same, only with my plant allies and garden familiars. Birds, bees, butterflies, snails, and ladybugs all become friends when I’m chilling at home or in the garden.

Life moves slowly when you’re a green witch, only you don’t mind. You welcome it! It makes you feel safe, warm, and loved.

Being a plant witch means more than the hustle and bustle of everyday, modern life. Sometimes you need to disengage from the world and go into hermit mode.

This makes life simple. Green witchery is for those seeking to live a simple life connected to the outdoors and nature by the simplest means possible.

Sometimes, this means spending time in the garden drinking tea. Other times, it means doing spellwork with your gemstone zen garden.

It’s all up to you and how you want to live your life. Some green witches are urban and live in big cities with windowsill gardens while others live in a secluded cottage in the middle of a meadow.

It’s important to find your personal brand of green magic! Just remember to slow down, enjoy nature, and find joy in the natural beauty in the world.
