Cottagecore Witchcraft for Mabon Holiday & Autumn Equinox

I am practicing cottagecore witchcraft for Mabon Holiday & Autumn Equinox this year! I want to slow down and enjoy the little moments this fall season, and, nothing says slow living, like cottagecore witchcraft.

I spent my time wildcrafting for the summer solstice, seeking treasures and pleasures in herbology. No leaf or stone was left unturned during Litha Holiday, as I went through the forest foraging, mushroom hunting after a big rainstorm, and wildcrafting for my favorite wild herbs.

As the summer witchcraft season closes, I kick things up a notch, as I decorate with a witchy cottagecore aesthetic! I find myself drawn to pumpkins, gourds, candied apples, and ghost decor. More importantly, I find myself sitting in stillness, as hot summer nights transform into fall vibes.

What is cottagecore witchcraft? Cottagecore, by itself, speaks of a kinfolk style, slow-living lifestyle. It reminds us to slow down and enjoy the little miracles life has to offer. It’s all about a deep connection to nature, slow living, sustainability, and simplicity.

Cottagecore witchcraft, on the other hand, takes it one step further. As a green hearth witch, I tend to embrace the darkness. I spend time practicing graveyard witchcraft, doing shadow work, and putting curses on people if the situation warrants it. Cottagecore likes to look at the bright side of things!

As I grow in my seasonal practice, I find myself tuning into the vibrations of each Wheel of the Year holiday. Each season holds the same magical properties year after year, but I continue to grow, evolve, and adapt.

So, how does one incorporate witchy cottagecore into the Mabon holiday season? Glad you asked! Let’s talk about that, shall we?

Cottagecore Witchcraft for Mabon Holiday & Autumn Equinox

As a green witch at heart, I feel most at home in nature, and I love to bring nature into my home! For the autumnal equinox, I love to decorate with elements of nature.

You’ll find my home covered in enchanted cinnamon brooms, miniature pumpkins, and an array of colorful gourds on display. I love the warmth of candles and fairy lights, giving my small space a fairy cottagecore vibe! Each time I set out a new pumpkin, gourd, string of fairy lights or apple, I put my intention into it.

In the September Green Witch Forecast, I spoke about the symbolism of turning leaves! When leaves turn color, I love to collect them on my autumn nature walks, and then I crumple them up and let them blow in the wind. Each time I collect and crumble an autumn leaf, I let something go from my life!

You can also use autumn leaves for weather witchcraft! Whenever you find a colorful leaf that represents autumn, place it in a basket as an offering to give to Lord Zeus. Ask him to bring sweater weather, as he is the god of weather, storms, and lightning!

I also love to spend time in the woodland searching conifer pinecones to take home with me for decoration. I also spend time with pine trees, as they represent new beginnings, and I can forage for pine needles to make my annual Pinetop tea! It’s a natural remedy for colds, coughs, and congestion. Perfect for flu season!

I have my favorite fall witchy rituals that I enjoy doing year after year! They have become a tradition for me and pair well with cottagecore witch vibes.

Mabon holiday celebration is all about warm and cozy vibes and the balance between darkness and light! As the days grow shorter and darkness prevails, so does the veil thin between our world and the spirit world.

Tips for Witchy Cottagecore Dark Academia Aesthetic

  • Don’t be afraid to embrace the darkness! Spend time in graveyards, talk to ghosts, curse your arch nemesis, make war water, and practice shadow work every chance you get.

  • Start a carnivorous plant terrarium! Pitcher plants, venus fly traps, sundew plants, and butterworts all make great additions to your plant world. You can use them to gobble up problems and eat away at bad habits!

  • Create a poison plant garden! This one is not for the inexperienced or weak at heart, but I think it’s worth looking into. Poison plants make great allies for banishing, hexing, cursing, and binding.

  • Create scary Jack-O’-Lanterns and put your intention into them! Pumpkins make great wards of protection and can also be used to scare people off.

  • Make black salt using ashes leftover from old spells! Black salt can be used for healing, protection, purification, and warding. Smudge black salt outside the entrance to your front door for healing, shielding, and protection. It keeps intruders off of your property!

  • Enchant dark lipstick to embrace your dark side! You could even name it your shadow work lipstick for those days when you need to sit still and understand the darkness within you.

Mabon Inspired Witchy Cottagecore

  • Dry autumn herbs and place them in pretty vases with the intention of a magical fall!

  • Take photographs of the forest once a week to watch the world turn from summer into the autumn season. Take notice of the subtle changes. Are the leaves changing? Are the days and nights growing colder? Is the forest filled with fog, shadows, and darkness?

  • Wildcraft for autumn herbs and plants! Where I live, goldenrod should begin dotting the forest, offering me a free remedy for allergy relief. Take notice of the fresh autumn plants cropping up in your area!

  • Decorate your home in a witchy autumn cottagecore aesthetic! Add gourds, cinnamon brooms, candied apples, pumpkins, and candles to create warmth and comfort in your home.

  • String fairy lights and practice candle magick! Nothing says warm and cozy like dark days covered in illumination. Be sure to add your intention while putting up lights or crafting a candle spell.

  • Do an autumn-inspired tarot reading! What hidden blessings and surprises will pop up for you this autumn season of life? What abundance is growing for you?

  • Create an autumn witch glow-up! Autumn reminds me of cinnamon, in the sense that it’s motivating and creates a warm spark within you. What would you like to change about yourself? What would you like to enhance? Think of maybe incorporating fall colors into your wardrobe.

As you can see, I’ll be spending this Mabon holiday surrounded by cottagecore witchcraft! I’ll be decorating, doing some autumn cleaning, and writing in my journal for shadow work and reflection. What are your plans for the autumn equinox?
