Water Witchcraft: The Water Element
Water Witchcraft: The Water Element uses healing, cleansing, and water magic to connect with water spirits with Plants By Laurali! This is part of my spellcraft series on the four elements and the Chinese elements and how to use them in the craft.
When I think of the water element, I think of sea witchcraft, and the ability to connect with bodies of water. I think of sea sprites, mermaid magic, and the water nymphs that dot our world's waterways.
I also think of how water makes me feel! Water makes my feelings and creativity flow. Water magic is what I turn to when I need to release something, as water keeps things flowing.
How many times have you been in a bad mood and took a detour to the beach or a waterfall, only to find your mood instantly improved? This is the power of water magic!
The water element creates instant healing in the body, mind, and soul. Healing waters is what I turn to when there is something in my life I need to release and let go of, especially during a full moon phase.
During this time, I might take a full moon bath for spiritual release. I fill the bathtub with water, gemstones, and an entire tub of sea salt. I soak for thirty minutes and say aloud all of the things I need to surrender to the universe.
I use watercraft to allow things to flow in and out of my life freely, whether it be feelings, creativity, or pure magick! Water witchcraft is different than earth witchcraft, in that it is a direct line to our emotional landscape.
If you want to gauge your feelings and emotions, water witchcraft is what you turn to! The water element is all about the heart chakra and a myriad of emotions and feelings. It comes from the heart.
Water is also connected to the moon and the planet Venus. It comes to life with every moon phase and every Friday when Venus is at the forefront of planetary alignments. Water loves planets with heartfelt energy.
What water does best is heals and cleanses things! It offers that deep emotional support we all long for, as we give away what is no longer needed from our psyche.
Water magic is all about rebirth and reinvention! If you are looking to start anew, if you need more resilience in your life, then water is the element you want to turn to in your spellcraft.
Today, I am going to talk about water witchcraft and how to incorporate the element of water into your green witchcraft practice! The magical properties of water can be used in everything from tea witchcraft to watering your plants. Let’s get started, shall we?
Water Witchcraft: The Water Element
Using water witchcraft can be hydrating and plentiful! I use the water element all of the time in my plant witchcraft practice. Water can be used for coffee magick and ocean potions.
Water creates a feeling of weightlessness, where every burden is lifted from your shoulders one by one. It lends a feeling of healing energy, as it takes your problems and pops them like soap bubbles in the sink.
Our bodies are made up of 70% water and need regular hydration. When we’re not hydrated, we dry out. We become a spiritual desert of heat waves.
Water restores us, recalibrates, and it rejuvenates us, and brings us back to life, pore by pore. Water is life force energy and it feeds and nourishes our souls, as well as our bodies!
When I think of the water element, I think of aquamarine colors, which are associated with the throat chakra. The throat chakra resides in the throat and affects our ability to communicate and think clearly.
I also associate the water element with the heart chakra. The heart chakra is associated with the color green and affects our ability to love, and bond with people, and connects us to our emotional landscape on any given day.
When working with the water element, it’s important to visualize the aquamarine color associated with it when doing spellwork. This proves especially true if you like to visualize your spell coming to life.
During the summer months, people tend to spend more time near large bodies of water, which makes it a great place to perform water spellwork. For your summer witchcraft practice, you might want to turn to water magick!
When you spend the day at the beach, you might try to connect with Goddess Aphrodite, who was born from the sea! Aphrodite is someone easy to work with, especially on a warm and sunny beach day. She loves seashells, seaweed, driftwood, and anything with a heart shape!
Aphrodite is someone who can help you with all things love-related! This includes everything from love relationships to self-care, as well as beauty routines, and discovering your values. She helps you go deep!
If working with Aphrodite doesn’t strike your fancy, you might like to work with Goddess Circe, a sea nymph, and daughter of Goddess Hekate. Circe can be found near fresh bodies of water, like lakes, streams, rivers, and waterfalls.
Circe is known for her healing remedies and her work with poisonous and baneful moon plants! I work with her often to create healing potions.
Additionally, you might like to work with mermaid magic, sea sprites, and water undines for additional help! I find they can help with transformation on its deepest level.
The water element is connected to the moon, psychic abilities, intuition, and the human psyche. In witchcraft, these are all essential to advancing the craft. Water is the magic behind it all!

The water element can be used in spells where hydration and nourishment are needed! Something as simple as watering my plants weekly with moon water and putting intention into them can become a magical routine.
Eating water-based fruits and plants can be equally beneficial for the body! Enchanting celery sticks, creating a watermelon bowl with intention, and eating seaweed-wrapped sushi can become a green kitchen witch spell.
The water element is more fluid while the earth element holds provisions. Water is creativity, flow, intuition, and psychic abilities. It is the emotional landscape that governs our feelings.
Water can be used for money flow, allowing for receptivity, as money comes in from different streams of income. It can be used in money magick to keep money flowing!
When I think of the water element, I think of mystery, hidden depths, and mermaid magick! If there’s something hidden beneath the surface, you can rest assured that water will bring it to the surface for healing.
The flowing and healing powers of a bath or swimming in the wild are therapeutic! It assists us in working with our inner child and channeling the stillness that lies deep inside of us. I often use water magick for shadow work and inner child healing!
Water pairs well with the moon and thrives in an empty, open space or receptacle! When you fill that vastness with your body, you soon become weightless. To me, in that moment, you become infinite with possibilities!
Think about this. There are only two open spaces with unexplored territory, which are the ocean and outer space. When you fill in the gaps with your body, mind, and soul, you become weightless. It is here you find you’ll find your magick, right in the water of your own making.
It’s up to the witchcraft practitioner to break through the boundaries of water, time, and space. You can do this through swimming, beachcombing, bathing under the moonlight, and taking a step toward swamp witchcraft. Sea water, freshwater, swamp water, and moon water, it’s all part of water witchcraft magic!
