September Green Witch Forecast: Autumnal Seasonal Shift

This is your September Green Witch Forecast with the autumnal seasonal shift! The spiritual meaning of September is all about cycles, change, and movement. It’s a month when you see things shift in a new direction!

As a nature witch, I am very familiar with seasonal shifts, weather changes, and astrological forecasts. A big part of my craft is working with monthly magic!

Through the years, I’ve begun to see the patterns and themes each month brings. Even though the planets may be doing different things each year at the same time, an overall theme tends to emerge that can help us navigate each month.

September is where you’ll find the autumnal seasonal shift happening! Depending on where you live, you might begin to see the leaves turn and the days grow shorter and the nights longer.

I consider September a month when the death cycle begins! In the last months of the year, the world gets colder and darker, transitioning and making its way toward the harsh winter months. Even where I live in Florida, there is a natural death taking place on the earth.

Unlike the transitional point of August, new cycles and patterns begin to emerge that let you know the wheel is turning again. We’ve reached the turning point and have moved beyond it.

In September, we begin to feel more hopeful, exhilarated, and alive! In places with four seasons, it’s the month that brings change and a cold nip to the air. You can see and feel changes taking place in the heart of nature and all around you.

In Florida, the dog day cicadas begin to die down their noises and go silently into the night. It’s still hot and humid here, but there’s hope that with every degree, summer is on its way out the door.

September is a month of endings and new beginnings! Doors begin to close and new chapters begin. This is a great time to find closure, hope, and renewal.

The Death Tarot Card

The death tarot card represents the end of a cycle, transition, and transformation. When a death occurs, it makes room for new growth and change. This makes the death tarot card the perfect card symbolism for September. When the earth dies for a season, it creates a period of shadow work and reflection. With death comes hope and renewal.

Turning Leaves Symbolism

You might have guessed that the turning leaves represent death and a new cycle! Leaves turn color, die, and fall to the ground around the tree making its way into the afterlife. In September, we are beginning to prune our trees and shear our plants, collecting what is left and making the best of it. This is the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new one. Now would be the perfect time to perform an autumnal magic spell of some sort!

Persephone Returns Home

The Goddess Persephone is a Greek Goddess after my own heart! In Greek Mythology, Persephone is captured by Hades and is forced to be his wife and queen and live in the underworld. Persephone eats a pomegranate seed and strikes a deal to see her Mother Demeter in the springtime and return to the underworld in the fall. This makes Persephone a goddess of seasonal shifts and transitions. I personally have always found the taking of the pomegranate intentional, meaning she wanted to be by her husband’s side and be queen while still being free to be with her closest link to the earth, her mother, in the springtime.

What is an Autumnal Seasonal Shift?

An autumnal seasonal shift represents cycles, change, and Mabon. Mabon is a witchy holiday that represents the balance between the light and the dark, shadows and sunlight.

This is the phase in life where we enter the death cycle and we begin to find balance, stability, and comfort. During seasonal shifts, it’s a magical time when the veil becomes thinner and thinner. This opens us up to new insights, transition, and change.

It’s a great time to close cycles and say goodbye to the things that no longer serve you. Consider it a period of closure, healing, shadow work, and renewal. It’s a great time to strike a balance!

Spirits to Work With For Finding Balance

Here are some additional spirits you can work with during the autumnal shift and during times when you need to find balance and duality. I also find these deities and spirit helpers to be easily accessible during the Mabon holiday season!

  • Goddess Demeter - Demeter is the mother of Persephone, the queen of the underworld, and wife of Hades. Lady Demeter is known for the harvest and would be the perfect goddess to call upon during a time of fruition. What you reap is what you sow! Then, it’s time to begin again. That’s when Demeter steps in.

  • Mother Gaia - Gaia is the Greek Goddess of Mother Earth, making her the perfect companion for the Mabon holiday! You can call on Gair for grounding, recalibration, healing, growth, and renewal.

  • Planet Venus - Venus is the planet of love, beauty, money, and relationships. But, did you know it is also associated with finding balance? You can call on Venus on a Friday and ask her to bring more balance to your life.

  • Nature Spirits - The nature spirits, also known as the fairy folk, are probably the most prominent spirits you can call on during a life transition. They live in the in-between realm, also known as the lower realm, in another realm within the Earthly realm. They are easily accessible, but you have to play nice and follow their rules. You have to make friends first by picking up trash and caring for the planet. You can easily reach them on a nature walk!

  • Apple Spirit - The apple spirit holds the essence of the Mabon harvest and fruitfulness! What do you have to be thankful for? Apple herb will show you the way! Apples represent money, fertility, harvest, and the coming season. You can call on the spirit of apple for money spells and fertility spells!

  • Cornucopia Spirit - Cornucopias represent a full belly and abundance. They represent having everything you could ever need and want. Call on Cornucopia spirit when you feel you are lacking something!

  • Lord Hades - The Greek God Hades is the king of the underworld! He represents life and death, dark and light. He represents the death season of life, which we enter into in the month of September. As the veil becomes thinner during the Mabon holiday season, we are more connected to the underworld and themes of death and life transitions. Hades is the perfect God to call on when doing spirit work, death witchcraft, and graveyard magic! He is kind, fatherly, gentle, and not at all what he seems like in modern-day depictions.

As you can see, September is a month of great change! It’s all about endings and new beginnings, much like a new moon. It’s a time of year when we find ourselves going deeper into ourselves and becoming more introspective.

There’s a hopefulness to September, as we move in and out of the summer months into a brand-new life. To get there, we might have to let go of things. This is a time of closure, goodbyes, hope, and renewal. Welcome to September!
