October Green Witch Forecast: The Thinning Veil
This is your October Green Witch Forecast, where the veil is thinning! October's spiritual meaning is all about spirituality, divination, and heightened magic. It is also highly connected to the witchy holiday Samhain, known as Halloween!
As a nature witch, I am familiar with seasonal shifts, weather changes, and astrological forecasts. A big part of my craft is working with monthly magic!
Through the years, I’ve begun to see the patterns and themes each month brings. Even though the planets may be doing different things each year at the same time, an overall theme tends to emerge that can help us navigate each month.
October is when you’ll find the veil becoming thin, making it easier to communicate with spirits and deceased loved ones. Depending on where you live, the autumn season should be in full swing!
October is one of my two favorite months of the year, so it holds a special place in my heart! My second favorite month is March during the Spring Equinox and the Aries New Moon.
What I love about October is that everything quiets down in the world, as we have now become fully engaged with the death season, where everything begins to die and prepare for Winter in the Northern Hemisphere. When things die off and burn away, it leaves room for new growth and introspection.
In the September forecast, I spoke about the month being a turning point and a time of transitions and seasonal shifts. In October, we’re going to see the harvest, lending more prosperity and abundance to the world around us.
This is a highly psychic time to be alive! October is highly associated with ancestor veneration, the thinning veil, and the magic of graveyards and the dead. It’s a great time to practice death witchery and graveyard witchcraft.
In October, the magic is all around us and within us! You can see it and feel it in the air. As we set out pumpkins for protection and scarecrows to ward off evil, we begin to unveil the yearning of the green witch and her innate magic.
It’s a time of great magic, intuition, and divination for those who wish to harness their psychic powers! If you are a tarot reader or practice mirror magic, this is the ideal time to make a play at it.
During this period, we may be able to see and feel a connection to the nature spirits, as the veil becomes thinner and thinner. This means you’ll be able to hear the voices of the land spirits loud and clear and are more likely to encounter one on a forest walk.
Think of October as a constant twilight state, where everything is out in the open.. The things that remain hidden come out of hiding to play hide n’ seek. If you wish to see a ghost, or fairy, or speak to a deceased loved one, they will make themselves known to you.
In Florida, things are finally cooling off come October. We can look forward to cool breezes and days filled with shadows on sunny trails. There’s a sense of relief in the air!
October is a month of great magic and mystery! The veil becomes thinner and thinner leading up to the witchy holiday Samhain, where spells are cast and animal familiars come out to play.
October Green Witch Forecast: The Thinning Veil
What kind of themes and patterns will we see in the month of October? Anything to do with magic, mysteries, spirits, and pumpkins should be prominent this month. It’s a time when cinnamon brooms, ghostly gourds, and the mystery of Scorpio season will begin to take center stage!

Libra Season (Air sign)
The Number Eight (Represents harvest, abundance, and fertility)

Transitions into Scorpio (Water Sign) by the end of the month
Los Muertos (Day of the Dead + Ancestor veneration)
Pumpkin Magic Symbolism
Pumpkins represent magic and protection! They also represent the harvest, as the farmers reap what they sow during this time period. People would often put pumpkins on their porches for protection this time of year, sparking a tradition that has lasted for ages! You might remember the story of Cinderella and her fairy godmother turning a pumpkin into a carriage to take her to the ball. Therefore, pumpkins can also represent a magical transformation!
The Witchy Holiday Samhain
Samhain holiday is where the idea for Halloween came from long ago! Samhain is where the veil becomes paper thin, making communication with spirits, fairies, and deceased loved ones more easily accessible. Samhain honors the dead through ancestor veneration and candle magic.
Shadow Work
During October, you might like to try your hand at some shadow work! Shadow work is a psychological term for integrating our darker half into our higher self. It’s great for journaling, introspection, listening to music, and sorting things out. When the veil becomes thin, you can easily access the shadow self!
Graveyard Magic
Graveyard magic or death witchcraft is where you head into a graveyard and speak to the dead! While the veil is thin, you’ll be able to hear their voices more clearly. While in the graveyard, you can collect graveyard dirt and pay respect to the dead.
Ancestor Veneration
Ancestor veneration is where you honor your deceased loved ones and sometimes practice magic with them. You can do this by lighting candles and giving offerings of fresh water and apples. The ancestors are a team of people who were once living and have your very best interests at heart.
What is the Thinning Veil?
The thinning veil is a time when everything on earth becomes quiet and we’re led to slow down and look inward for the answers to life’s little mysteries. In addition to that, when the veil becomes thin we can talk to the dead and see an increase in our magical powers and psychic abilities. Everything becomes more magical and enhanced during this time!
Spirits to Work With to Enhance Magical Qualities
Here are some additional spirits you can work with during October while the veil is thin! The spirit helpers I’ve picked out can enhance psychic abilities such as intuition and different forms of divination. They can also assist with increasing magical powers and enhancing your witchcraft practice.
Goddess Hecate - The Greek Goddess of witchcraft, crossroads, and graveyards she holds the key to life’s little mysteries! Hekate can be called upon by making a key out of anything made in nature such as a pinecone, mushroom, or flower. The best place to meet her is in a graveyard!
Nature Spirits - The nature spirits, also known as the fairy folk, are probably the most prominent spirits you can call on during a life transition. They live in the in-between realm, also known as the lower realm, in another realm within the Earthly realm. They are easily accessible, but you have to play nice and follow their rules. You have to make friends first by picking up trash and caring for the planet. You can easily reach them on a nature walk!
Graveyard Spirits - The graveyard spirits are not always deceased loved ones. They are spirits you meet in a graveyard and forge a connection with them to enhance your magic. I recommend using powerful protection when working with cemetery spirits!
Mirror Magic - You can use mirror magic, which is a form of divination, to invite a spirit to come and talk to you while the veil is thin. It’s important to use protection and be open-minded to whomever comes through. Lay a mirror flat and stare into it until everything becomes hazy. After a while, you’ll begin to see someone emerge. Take note of who it is and what it looks like. be sure to ask questions and take down notes afterward! Always give thanks after a spiritual encounter.
Ghosts - Ghosts are kind of chained to the earth in some way! Some ghosts may come to you to be freed or some may just want to tell you their story. This is different than the spirits laid to rest in graveyards. Practicing spirit work can assist you in your magic, but again, I recommend a great deal of study and protection being put in place beforehand!
As you can see, October is a great month for witchcraft and divination! It’s a time when the veil becomes thin and everything is out in the open. It also happens to contain my favorite holiday, the witchy holiday Samhain!
The magic of October is in the dead, to be honest, and in all things in between! It’s a period when the harvest is ready for plucking. Welcome to October!
