A Day in the Life of a Green Witch
Today, I thought I’d share what a day in the life of a green witch is like! Living as a solitary green witch is one of everyday mundane practical magic. It’s the little things throughout my day that are magical!
Throughout each day, I find magic in hidden places! When I go to the beach with my boyfriend, it becomes a day of beach magic. When I hike in the woods, it becomes an enchanted walk in the woods with animal familiars, nature spirits, and goddesses!
Something as simple and mundane as cleaning my house and watering my houseplants becomes a magical ritual in disguise! When I sweep, I sweep out old, stagnant energy.
As I water my plants, I’m talking to them and breathing my intention into them with tiny gemstones, rich soil, and water. When I clean my floors or polish counters, I can often be found in prayer and meditation.
Being a green witch is a lifestyle that can easily be followed by designing your rituals and routines and incorporating them into your day. It’s the little things, such as thinking of my intention as I braid my hair in the morning, that become spells!
So, what does my day look like as a green witch? Let’s deep dive into a day in the life of a green witch! Witchcraft is personal to the individual witch and today, I’m going to share what my life is like and what a typical witchy day looks like for me.
A Day in the Life of a Green Witch
What is a green witch? Let’s start there. A green witch is someone with a solitary witchcraft practice who draws upon the earth’s energy for use in spells and rituals.
Most green witches spend a lot of time with plants, animal familiars, crystals, and outdoors in the backdrop of mother nature. Many spells can be found in backyards, gardens, houseplants, and in forest landscapes.
The green witch derives their energy from Mother Earth, using the roots of trees and the grounded soil of the garden to create herbal spells and natural remedies. The green witch will often forage and wildcraft for many of their ingredients on a nature walk.
When they aren’t wildcrafting, they are growing their plants and herbs in windowsill gardens. They are looking for the greenest options for their Green Witch kitchen. They are the ones plucking aloe vera blades to treat burns and lavender to help them sleep.
Their whole lives are tied up in the magic of nature! The green witch will often have a green aura around them, magically altered by spending so much time in parks and waterways.
The green witch is someone who spends their days and nights in scenic locations, where they can do protection spells on land and communicate with the local land spirits. On days of low energy, the earth witch might spend time closed in with their houseplants and crystals, recharging their battery using natural tools and resources as fuel.
The typical green witch has a unique energetic blueprint in which practical earthy magic runs the show! You’ll see it in their walk and how they carry themselves and in the way they live their lives.
A green witch is often an eco-friendly magical person! This means they reduce, reuse, and recycle as much as they can. They often eat a plant-based diet or hunt and live off the land.
Again, each green witch brings something different to the green table that is life! They are regular people who happen to live magical lives and you can be one of them.
Magical Morning Rituals and Routines
My typical day looks like any other, except I work from home and this inspires a lot of freedom to do the things I enjoy, like spending time in nature. I wake up in the morning and kickstart a spiritual day by writing a letter to one of my Greco-Roman deities. I usually do this over black coffee, which is how I’ve been drinking it since I was a small child.
My patron goddess is Goddess Fortuna! She is the goddess that I turn to the most and she is the love of my life. My loyalty and devotion to her run as deep as a river and vast as the sea.
I also worship Goddess Hekate, as she assists me with dark magic and rituals, as well as offers me comfort and protection. She is the goddess of witchcraft and she makes me more powerful and sure of myself.
As a couple, I worship Goddess Aphrodite and Lord Ares! Lady Aphrodite is the goddess of beauty, sexuality, and romance. She assists me with my love life and my familial relationships. I dedicate all my beauty routines to her every morning as I begin my day.
On the other hand, Lord Ares is the God of war and courage. He assists me with motivation and alleviates my anxiety and insecurities. I dedicate my workouts to him, including my yoga, barre, and long walks.
During Mercury in Retrograde, which is occurring as I write this, Lord Hermes often makes an appearance in my life! Hermes is the God of travel, technology, and communications and has a direct link to the planet Mercury. I dedicate all my travels to Lord Hermes and hope to go on many adventures with him!
I worship Lord Zeus, the God of storms and weather, to cleanse the earth with good rain and to protect me and my loved ones from natural disasters. He also assists me with real-world problems. I dedicate rainstorms to Zeus and give him offerings of water from eclipses and hurricanes whenever I can.
As a couple, I also worship Lady Persephone and Lord Hades, majesties of the underworld! They are the couple I aspire to when I am having relationship problems and need to do more shadow work.
Lady Persephone is also the goddess of springtime and always reminds me of gardens and flowers! Persephone assists me with writing poetry, journaling, reflecting, and doing shadow work. I dedicate my poetry and writing to her, especially when it comes from a place of open-heartedness and vulnerability.
Lord Hades is like a warm, fatherly figure in my life with great wisdom and sage advice. Hades assisted me with Greco-Roman money magick and financial advice on my business. I dedicate my money and investments to Lord Hades, in hopes that it will grow and flourish in the future!
I worship Lady Vesta, the Roman Goddess of hearth and home! Her altar is in my kitchen cupboard and I incorporate her into any green kitchen witch magic and hearth witchcraft I do. I dedicate my home and garden to her!
In addition to that, I practice ancestor veneration! My ancestors have an altar on my kitchen counter where I give them an offering of apples frequently. I dedicate my time with my family to them!
While there are other Gods that I worship occasionally, these are the ones that I work with full-time! There’s not a day that goes by that they aren’t in my thoughts and prayers.
I write letters to my Gods every morning over coffee, usually on weekdays. This is how I begin my day and I can feel their presence with me all day long, as I shower, work, clean, and create healthy meals.
After writing a deity letter, I shower and do my yoga. Showers are dedicated to Lady Aphrodite, as well as my morning beauty routine. Sometimes, I even dedicate my hairstyle and outfit to her, as she assists me with getting dressed every morning.
Yoga is dedicated to Lord Ares, husband to Lady Aphrodite. I usually try to do 45 minutes of yoga five times a week, during the weekdays. Weekends are reserved for rest, relaxation, and fun.
After I’m done with my yoga, I am ready to do some writing, which is my full-time job working from home and running a small business. I dedicate my life’s work to Lady Fortuna, as she brings luck, fame, and fortune. I love her dearly!
My morning is magic and it’s not always of the green variety, as you can see! Each day is different from the next and while I have my routines, I try to change it up now and then. Some days are more focused on green magic, some days I’m more of a hearth witch, while other days I’m more of a green kitchen witch while I dabble in hedge witchery.
Being a green witch doesn’t mean being pegged to just one thing or one way of life! Life is meant to always be growing, evolving, and everchanging when you live it as a green witch or any kind of witch you want to be.
Magical Afternoon Rituals and Routines
As the morning becomes afternoon, I would say things become more everyday mundane. I live a magical life but it’s still a regular, practical life. My afternoons are often spent writing for my online business, taking long walks with my boyfriend, and sometimes doing some spellwork.
Sometimes, the spellwork is in the garden or a potted plant spell with one of my favorite houseplants. A big part of my life is gifting my potted plant spells to the people I love and care about. Everyone loves a plant!
Other times, I’m doing spells while I am cooking a plant-based meal or in the backyard at my boyfriend’s place next door. Even my writing is a spell in and of itself! Writing is magic, especially when you write about moon phases, shadow work, and plant magic as I do.
My afternoons are open! I keep a work routine that is flexible and open to change. I have never been big on a job that sucks my time. I prefer my job to not feel like a job at all.
Writing is my passion! I’ve been writing poetry and stories of faraway places since I was a little girl. I always knew what I wanted to do and now I’m doing it.
I write because I love it and if it pays my way and allows me to live a luxurious life, even better! Writing about magic, something so tied up in my identity as a green witch, allows me to be my true, authentic self.
I get to share what I’ve learned with others and impart wisdom. I get to journal about my heart’s fondest desires. I get to teach about animal familiars, plant allies, and how to be a green witch in your unique way. How lucky am I?
Magical Evening Rituals and Routines
In the evening, I drink wine and relax! I say prayers as I drift off to sleep as many people do. I have been known for riding the hedge as I drift between dream states and awakening. It is here, in this in-between state, that I create animal and plant familiars servitors to do tasks for me.
Servitors do things for you. They make things happen for you. They alter your personality and can create glow-ups and change. Creating a midnight servitor and bringing it to life is a way of feeding the magic and keeping it going.
When I’m alone and not traveling with my boyfriend, my evenings are dedicated to reading magical realism books and learning about witchcraft. I’ve dedicated my life to the study and art of green witchery. In my alone time, I like to do a lot of studying, praying, and reading.
When I’m with my boyfriend, which is the majority of the time, I spend my evenings on the porch with him looking at the moon and watching the trees make faces in the wind. It’s one of our favorite nighttime rituals.
Believe it or not, you don’t always have to do witchy things to feel the magic and be a witch. It's the magic of the everyday mundane that sends me to the moon!
It’s good food and wine and conversations on Southern porches with Spanish Moss dripping from the trees that are the magical realism of life as a witch. Green witchery is about the magic of nature and how to incorporate it into the tiny details of life. What does your magical evening routine look like?
Green Witch Days and Nights
The days and nights of a green witch are often met with tasks and routines. We are magical people living ordinary lives. We are the ones helping people behind the scenes and making the world a better place.
As a proud green witch, I’m grateful for the ordinary and the extraordinary! I’m thankful to have a mixed bag of both. Some days are more magical than others, some days are low energy, and some days are downright extraordinary.
The days and nights that are downright extraordinary are the ones that propel me forward, deeper into the craft. Those are the mornings filled with French toast made for a favorite goddess or a magical hike in the woods where I see owl symbolism and find naturally shed deer antlers.
The evenings spent in graveyards communing with spirits and ghosts are like an invisible thread that ties both worlds together with a pretty pink ribbon. Our world and the spirit world. The Other Side.
The days when I’m cleaning my house, listening to a playlist dedicated to Lady Fortuna, and praying while I work are the days that fill me with hope and promise and Otherworldly things. It’s on those days that I feel complete and whole.
A Day in the Life of a Green Witch is the one I live each day, slightly varied and different. Each day that I wake up now, I know something magical is going to happen, no matter what kind of mood I’m in.
Each night that I go to sleep now, I know something magical is being stirred and conjured while I dream. My dreams are often prophetic and colorful and usually mean something. Animal familiars come to visit me here from faraway places.
Every day is a new day and an opportunity to wake up and create the life I want because I have the power to do that. Being a green witch is magic because I’m magic and the magic lives and dwells within me, hiding in plain sight and under cotton covers. Thank you for allowing me to share what a day in the life of a green witch is like!
